Check The Users Downloading The File

The Download Tracking feature in FileBird Document Library allows you to see who downloaded which file in your document library. If a user is logged in on your website, their email address will be recorded each time they download a file.

This gives digital product sellers clear insight into how their PDF files are accessed, without using third-party tracking tools.

What Download Tracking Does

Download Tracking enables you to:

  • Log each file download made by a logged-in WordPress user

  • Record the email address of the downloader

  • See which file was downloaded

  • View all download activity in a centralized log inside FileBird settings

All tracking data is stored directly inside your WordPress dashboard.

Step 1: Install and Activate the Download Tracking Add-on

To enable this feature, we provide an additional add-on for the document tracker in the FileBird Document Library. Install and activate it to continue.

Once activated, FileBird will be ready to record download activity.

Step 2: Configure Your Document Library for Downloads

First things first, head over to your document library and configure it to allow audiences download the file.

This ensures your audience can access files while FileBird tracks eligible downloads in the background.

Step 3: Advanced Download Controls

To give digital sellers even more control and security, FileBird now includes two new settings in the Settings tab:

  • Secure Download URLs

  • Modify Download Button by File extensions

These options help you protect your digital files while customizing how downloads work across your library.

When you enable Secure Download URLs option, it will protect your files by preventing direct access to the original file URLs:

  • Download links are generated dynamically

  • File URLs cannot be easily shared or reused, it just work on a specific time

And whether to enable this feature or not, WordPress users can also enter file extensions to control what users can download, and which file types display a Download button in the document library.

Step 4: Publish Your Document Library

Next, publish your FileBird Document Library so that when customers download media files. From this point on, FileBird automatically records downloads made by logged-in users, which means the user's email address and the file name are saved.

The activity appears in the Download Tracking Log. You can view all tracked downloads directly in your WordPress dashboard, from the Settings tab of FileBird Document Library.

Here, you’ll find a complete list of tracked downloads, all in one place.

Notes:

  • Only logged-in WordPress users can be tracked

  • Guest or anonymous downloads are not recorded

  • Download tracking does not prevent downloads, it only records them

  • Logs are viewable by site administrators

The Download Tracking feature in FileBird Document Library provides digital sellers with valuable insights into how their PDFs are accessed. By showing who downloaded which file, you gain better control, clearer records, and more confidence when managing digital products.
