How to add an international phone number or WhatsApp link

Setting up your WhatsApp contact correctly is key to making sure customers from anywhere in the world can reach you without confusion. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to add an international phone number or a WhatsApp link step by step - no technical skills required.

WhatsApp works globally, so your phone number must include the country code. This ensures that users from different countries can message you instantly without errors.

Prepare Your Phone Number

To create a working WhatsApp link, your number must follow this format:

[a plus sign (+)] [Country Code] [Phone Number]

Important rules:

• Do NOT include spaces

• Do NOT include brackets ( )

• Only use numbers

For example, if the contact is in Germany (country code “+49”), has the area code "30" and phone number "XXX-XXXX", you'd enter +4930XXXXXXXX

This helps WhatsApp recognize your number correctly worldwide.

Create your WhatsApp link

The WhatsApp Business app allows you to create a simple link so customers can start chatting with you instantly - no need to save your number first.

How it works:

Important rules:

• Do NOT include the plus sign (+)

• Do NOT include spaces or special characters

• Use numbers only

For example, your WhatsApp link is https://wa.me/493012345678. From this link, users can click Continue to chat to open a chat with your business.

• Select “Share” and “Copy link”
